For the first time with the Song Lyric Sunday challenge, I didn’t know where to go with the prompt ‘Elevator Music.’ Usually, I think about the prompt ahead of times and usually come up with something. So, instead of preparing this post beforehand, I waited until the actual Sunday to see what others made of it. And finally, I was inspired to choose and write something.

I hate the song I chose. I worked in retail for eighteen years, so I’ve come across a lot of background music. I was happy that it was there because it was extremely silent when the radio wasn’t on. But this song is so whiny, and it’ll stay in your head forever.
Vanessa Carlton explained the song is actually about someone she went to school with but would never dare to approach. This person is a famous actor now, but she won’t divulge their name.
Vanessa has struggled to build a career after this one hit, as people expected more of the same.

I know we’re asked not to share too many videos on a post, but I have to include this clip from ‘White Girls’, which features the song performed by Terry Crews. Because, you know, Terry Crews 🤷🏼‍♀️

A Thousand Miles – Vanessa Carlton

Making my way downtown
Walking fast, faces pass and I’m homebound

Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making a way through the crowd

And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder

If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass me by?
‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight

It’s always times like these when I think of you
And wonder if you ever think of me
‘Cause everything’s so wrong, and I don’t belong
Living in your precious memory

‘Cause I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder

If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass me by?
Oh, ’cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight

And I, I don’t wanna let you know
I, I drown in your memory
I, I don’t wanna let this go
I, I don’t

Making my way downtown
Walking fast, faces pass and I’m homebound
Staring blankly ahead, just making my way
Making a way through the crowd

And I still need you
And I still miss you
And now I wonder

If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass us by?

‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you, oh-oh
If I could fall into the sky

Do you think time would pass me by?
‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles

If I could just see you
If I could just hold you tonight
