The song ‘Most Girls’ by P!nk meant a lot to me when it was released. I was a big fan of P!nk’s first album, ‘Can’t Take Me Home,’ from 2000, which featured this song.
This was around the time I finished high school, and I was about to begin university. I enjoyed the self-sufficient theme of the song. Don’t depend on a man, but make sure you can take care of yourself.

Sometimes I think back to this time. It’s now twenty years later. I’m entirely dependent on my husband. I don’t mind it, it was a conscious decision, but it’s still tough to swallow sometimes after having always made money. When my husband and I met, I lived on my own in an apartment, taking care of myself. I wasn’t rich, but, like in this song, I didn’t need a man.

I guess life has different stages. I’m happy to know I can live by myself if I need to, that I’m strong enough to do so. It wasn’t necessarily always fun and often very lonely. I’m glad I lived through it and hope it won’t ever be necessary again, but should it happen, I know I can do it. And I will listen to this song for inspiration.

Listen to this post, but without the music for copyright reasons 😉

  1. This was my summer theme last year. I remember when it came out, I was going into junior high. Did you know this was produced by the legendary Babyface?
