Omnia is a small, somewhat unknown band from the Netherlands. Their genre is hard to describe. Sometimes they make folk music or a remake of a historical song. Their music is always acoustic, and it’s definitely alternative.

Festivals

Several years ago, I was a fan of theirs and saw them perform during festivals in the Netherlands and Germany. I also went to their show in a theatre. The last couple of years they haven’t been that active musically, as they have moved to a different part of Europe and are building a new life there.

Life is Dreary

I’ve seen them perform the song ‘Toys in the Attic‘ many times. Even though the song is somewhat slower, it was still a high point of their performance. The song is about being able to play and how many people lose that ability. I remember when this song was introduced during a show, the main singer, Steve, would talk about how when a new baby comes into the world, it is presented with smiles and toys and happy faces. Then a toddler still is surrounded by toys and play. But then the child has to go to school, and things become more serious. Until the student enters the real world, there’s nothing to smile about anymore. There is no more play. Everything is dull and dreary, and you just have to make do. That’s what this song is about.
You can choose to still have fun and behave like a maniac, in a way. You can choose to play and laugh and decide not to be like other people.

My Anthem

I identify with this message. When you meet me, you’ll see I’m serious and conscientious and not that much ‘fun’ at all. There is little play in my life, only when my husband goofs around me and makes me laugh. Or when my cats do something silly that makes me smile. What I do find important is to live my own life. The idea of working in an office scared me so much that I have built another life for myself. My work in retail also left me little to smile about, so I changed careers. I’m now a sex blogger. I’m a writer of erotic stories, and I get to review sex toys. Just yesterday, I took pictures of my latest sex doll. You should have seen me giggle. I also play many video games, which adds joy to my life. And, of course, there’s plenty of BDSM play.

Enjoy It While It Lasts

I realize I’m a lucky and fortunate person to be living the life I’m currently living. I know it can be over any minute. We try to set up fail-safes, but both my husband and I know life knows how to throw you curveballs that you could never have prepared for. I mean to say that I consciously try to live an alternative lifestyle so that I don’t become dull and boring. I hope to always have a life where I don’t have to go to work, go home, watch TV, sleep and go back to work. Being different isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely worth it to me. And yes, you could see ‘Toys in the Attic’ as my anthem. I hope you enjoy it.
