A song about flowers. It had me thinking for a long time, but I knew there was one. And then I thought back to how Castus from the band Corvus Corax would introduce this song in their live set. He would say: this song is about all the pretty ladies who are like the most beautiful flowers. Yes, he’s quite the charmer, but it would always make me smile.

Originally the song is from the Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. It has been covered many times, not only by Corvus Corax, but also by Saltatio Mortis, In Extremo and several others.
I love this version especially, because it’s so upbeat and happy. And yes, it’s the perfect song for the beginning of spring and the first blooming of the flowers. The Saltatio Mortis version linked above is also really cool since it was filmed at Wacken, so it shows the power of this song in front of an enormous audience. And yes, there are bagpipes in the song, but it only makes it better šŸ˜‰

I Am Fully Blooming

Philomena, be quiet for some time!
rise, old song, from my heart!
Oh! Oh! I am fully blooming!
Refrain:
I am now fully blooming with virginal love
new, new love it is, that I’m dying

The time is pleasant, maidens
simply rejoice with us, you youths!
Oh! Oh! I am fully blooming!
Refrain:
Now with love..

Philomela sings sweetly as she does,
and is heard modulating; I am enflamed inside
Oh! Oh! I am fully blooming!
Refrain:
Now with love..

The flower belongs to the girls
and the rose that I like is
of roses that I often see.
Oh! Oh! I am fully blooming!
Refrain:
Now with love..

My virginity plays with me,
my simplicity dispossesses me.
Oh! Oh! I am fully blooming!
Refrain:
Now with love..

Come, young lady, with joy!
Come, come, beautiful one! I am dying now
Oh! Oh! I am fully blooming!
Refrain:
Now with love..

Totus Floreo

Sile philomena pro tempore!
surge cantilena, de pectore!
O! O! totus floreo!
Refrain:
Iam amore virginali totus ardeo
novus novus amor est, quod pereo

Tempus est iocundum, o virgines
modo congaudete vos iuvenes!
O! O! totus floreo!
Refrain:
Iam amoreā€¦

Cantat philomela sic dulciter,
et modulans auditur; intus caleo
O! O! totus floreo!
Refrain:
Iam amoreā€¦

Flos est puellarum,
quam diligo et rosa
rosarum quam sepe video.
O! O! totus floreo!
Refrain:
Iam amoreā€¦

Mea mecum ludit virginitas,
mea ma detrudit simplicitas.
O! O! totus floreo!
Refrain:
Iam amoreā€¦

Veni domicella, cum gaudio!
Veni, veni, pulchra! Iam pereo
O! O! totus floreo!
Refrain:
Iam amoreā€¦
