I never expected to write a piece about Gerard Joling on my blog. He is a well-known performer from the Netherlands, mostly known for his singing, but also a TV presenter. People who don’t like his music often make fun of him. He can be extravagant and flamboyant, but I think he is a good performer. He does control his singing techniques, and he has a very unique voice.
He used to be immensely popular in Asia, but he didn’t like to be away from home for too long, so he never developed his career there.

Since the song was released in 1985 and was a big hit in the Netherlands, I heard this song many times, growing up in the eighties. I don’t particularly like or dislike this song. It’s part of my history, you could say.

Since ‘Song Lyric Sunday’ is about bringing unknown songs to a new public, I thought this would be a perfect fit 🙂
