“What would constitute a perfect day for you?”

I liked this prompt because it’s something I actually never really thought about, at least not for a long time.

It’s funny how such an innocent question requires more brainpower than a deeply philosophical one. What would I really want?

Let’s start slowly. Every day I begin with coffee, so it’ll be the same on my perfect day. A cup of coffee, regular ground beans with a dash of milk, okay, a couple of dashes actually, and peace and quiet around me. I’m not a morning person, and I usually don’t rise before 10 AM, and you definitely shouldn’t bother me with difficult questions.

I like to do some cross-stitch during this time, and almost always, I have a cat on my lap.

After a simple yoghurt with oatmeal breakfast, I’d be ready to begin my day.

In a perfect world, I would go visit a festival. My bag would have been pre-arranged, naturally, with my sunscreen, sunglasses, cap and everything else I could possibly need, including food and drink until we get there. We, because I would go together with my husband.

We travel by car, and I’m not the one driving. I can drive, but I don’t enjoy it.

When we get out of the car, I can already hear my favourite band playing. It’s the best way to start the festival experience and immediately brings me in the right mood.

We stroll over the terrain all day long. The temperature is just right; it’s not too sunny and definitely not raining. We pick up snacks from the different stalls. Because we’re outside and the atmosphere around us is excellent, it’s the best food ever. In reality, it’s not even that special, but the surroundings make it ten times better.

Just before it goes dark, stacks of wood are set on fire all throughout the terrain. It may seem dangerous, but people naturally navigate them, giving off a necessary warmth.

During the evening, an evening concert begins. I’d love to see Subway to Sally once play live, and since this is my dream day, they’re playing! I’m enjoying the music, and the crowd around me are singing and dancing along too. Everything is positive with no bad feelings around. The music gives me new energy and inspires many stories to be written in the near future.

After the concert, we pass yet again by the food stalls and pick up a late-evening snack. We return to our car and make our way home. All in all, it was a perfect day.

Other possibilities: We could have stayed in a hotel. That saves us the long drive home in the middle of the night. I enjoy hotel stays, but my husband hates sleeping somewhere else than home, so then it wouldn’t be his perfect day 😉

This day is actually one which I have lived many times, the last time three years ago. The year before Covid, 2019, we chose not to go to this festival. It does cost some money all in all, and we weren’t enjoying it as much as we had in the past. And now, here we are in 2021, wishing I could go again, missing the atmosphere, the friendly people. You don’t know what you got till it’s gone…
